Hey there Reader,
I know I canât control everything.
But sometimes I still catch myself tryingâtightening up when things get messy, wishing away the uncomfortable parts, hoping for clear outcomes.
This week, a passage from Let Them by Mel Robbins brought me back to something Iâve learned beforeâbut needed to hear again:
âImagine standing beneath the sky thatâs constantly shiftingâsometimes clear and blue, other times filled with clouds, or rumbling with storms. Youâve spent so much time and energy trying to keep that sky clear, wishing away the clouds, hoping for endless sunshine. But the sky doesnât care what you want. It will do what it does, with or without your input. The breakthrough moment comes when you realize this: the skyâs beauty isnât diminished by the presence of clouds or storms. In fact, itâs the variety, the unpredictability, that makes it truly magnificent. These storms highlight the calm; the clouds make the sun more precious. The same is true for your life. Youâve been trying to control the uncontrollable, trying to force the world to conform to your expectations. But what if, instead, you focused on your own response to whatever the world throws your way?â
How many hoursâhow many yearsâhave we spent trying to keep the sky clear?
We try to pre-empt disappointment.
Prevent conflict.
Plan our way out of uncertainty.
But the world doesnât work like that.
Storms still come.
Plans still fall apart.
People still surprise us.
And yetâwhat if none of that is a problem?
What if the âmess,â the contrast, the unpredictability⊠is what makes it all beautiful?
đ§ Tool to try
A small reframe when things go sideways
The next time something doesnât go the way you hoped, pause and ask:
- What am I trying to control here?
- What would shift if I focused on how I respondânot how I resist?
You canât stop the clouds.
But you can anchor yourself through them.
đïž Something to consider
You donât need perfect conditions to live a meaningful life. Just presence. And perspective.
