The Good Life

Where life feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside

Hey there Reader,

I know I can’t control everything.
But sometimes I still catch myself trying—tightening up when things get messy, wishing away the uncomfortable parts, hoping for clear outcomes.

This week, a passage from Let Them by Mel Robbins brought me back to something I’ve learned before—but needed to hear again:

“Imagine standing beneath the sky that’s constantly shifting—sometimes clear and blue, other times filled with clouds, or rumbling with storms. You’ve spent so much time and energy trying to keep that sky clear, wishing away the clouds, hoping for endless sunshine. But the sky doesn’t care what you want. It will do what it does, with or without your input. The breakthrough moment comes when you realize this: the sky’s beauty isn’t diminished by the presence of clouds or storms. In fact, it’s the variety, the unpredictability, that makes it truly magnificent. These storms highlight the calm; the clouds make the sun more precious. The same is true for your life. You’ve been trying to control the uncontrollable, trying to force the world to conform to your expectations. But what if, instead, you focused on your own response to whatever the world throws your way?”

How many hours—how many years—have we spent trying to keep the sky clear?

We try to pre-empt disappointment.
Prevent conflict.
Plan our way out of uncertainty.
But the world doesn’t work like that.

Storms still come.
Plans still fall apart.
People still surprise us.

And yet—what if none of that is a problem?

What if the “mess,” the contrast, the unpredictability
is what makes it all beautiful?

🔧 Tool to try

A small reframe when things go sideways

The next time something doesn’t go the way you hoped, pause and ask:

  • What am I trying to control here?
  • What would shift if I focused on how I respond—not how I resist?

You can’t stop the clouds.
But you can anchor yourself through them.

đŸ–‹ïž Something to consider

You don’t need perfect conditions to live a meaningful life. Just presence. And perspective.
