Hey there Reader,
I realised recently that I had slipped back into a morning pattern that was quietly setting the tone for my whole day — and not in a good way. Before I was even properly awake, I was doing two things: checking my blog earnings and weighing myself.
It sounds harmless. It never was.
Both of those habits pulled me straight into some version of scarcity, comparison, or “not enough yet.” I hadn’t even taken a conscious breath, and my nervous system was already negotiating with reality. That tiny spiral downward was starting before I had even arrived in my body.
So I made a decision.
Those first few minutes, when the mind is still soft and sleepy, would no longer be used for measurement. Instead, they would be used for memory. Specifically, I lie there and remember five real moments from the day before that I’m grateful for, like a felt replay.
This, I’ve realised, is my version of gratitude. It works. It’s not about making a list. It’s about re-embodying what was good and inviting more of that in.
And it feels like a much better way to begin a day.
🔬Tiny experiment
Before you get out of bed tomorrow, resist the urge to check anything. Instead, recall five specific moments from yesterday that you are glad happened. Not a list. A replay.
Notice what shifts in your state when you begin from memory rather than measurement.
📝 Journal prompt
What are the first questions you tend to ask the day the moment you wake? Are they about pressure, performance, or self-monitoring? Or do they help you feel grounded, connected, and well?
If they are not helping — what kind of question would?
